A KTV room in Beijing   Nov.10 - KTV Karaoke clubs in major Chinese cities will be levied for the usage of copyrighted music and videos.

The National Copyright Administration (NCA) on Thursday released a copyright usage fee standard, stipulating that the clubs will be charged 12 yuan (US$1.5) per room per day.

The move will be initially tested in big cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, and then spread around the whole country.

The issue was raised in July this year when the Music Copyright Society of China and the China Audio-Video Collective Management Association filed an application to the National Copyright Administration, demanding for a copyright levy.

In August, a hearing was held, attended by both KTV operators and copyright owners as well as people from other walks of life.
