Chinanews, Beijing, Mar. 24 – Zhu Erming, honorary chairman of Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, said on Thursday that China has 85 thousand dams and reservoirs, some 33% of them having turned obsolete, especially medium and small where problem is even more serious.
He said that China has done a lot to deal with water quality since the 1950s. But he warned at the same time that China still have more to do to provide safe and high-quality water.
Zhu also points out that some of these dams are located in transportation hubs or densely populated areas, which may cause grave danger in the future.
