Chinanews, Beijing, April 26 - According to a report by Beijing Daily, an epidemic of ophthalmia, or bloodshot eyes, hit Beijing. The dry and windy weather and the unhealthy ways of using one's eyes should be blamed for the rampage of the disease.

 

Miss Xiao, an employee of a government institution in Beijing, got the disease on April 24, when her eyes became bloodshot, and she felt an acute pain in her eyelids.

 

Actually, Miss Xiao was a late victim in the epidemic, as many of her colleagues had been infected several days earlier. Some of them still have to wear dark glasses to protect their recovering eyes.

 

"Though there is an ophthalmia epidemic, not many patients have come to see a doctor," said Li, a doctor from Ditan Hospital. "Most of them will choose OTC eye drops. In fact, such epidemic can be witnessed every year in late spring and early summer, thus citizens should be aware of personal hygiene to avoid being infected."
