Chinanews, Beijing, February 28 – According to Chen Runsheng, the director of China Wildlife Conservation Association, China has entered a new stage of wildlife conservation, as artificially bred crested ibises, David's deer, Yangtze alligators, wild horses, etc, have been successfully sent back to the wild.

“There are 3 steps in our plan of saving endangered animals: rescuing them from the wild, artificial propagation to extend their population, and sending them back to the wild,” said Chen. “Now, we are in the last phase.”

Actually, China has saved more than 200 endangered animal species, and several dozens of them have established a stable community under domestication. For example, the population of artificially bred pandas reached 217 by the end of 2006, and there were more than 1,000 crested ibises, 2,000-plus David's deer, 300 wild horses and some 10,000 Yangtze alligators in the reserves.
