Chinanews, Xi'an, January 4 – A 25-strong tomb robbery gang were cracked down in Yanan, Shaanxi Province recently that had robbed no less than 300 ancient tombs in the last 10 years.
There are many ancient tombs of between the Warring States period and the Han Dynasty in Yanan, but hardly enough work has been done to protect them, particularly in the rural areas, where some people regard tomb robbery as the easiest way of becoming rich.
When they were arrested, the police were astonished to find tomb robbers had among them a detailed map of the locations of nearly all the ancient tombs in Yanan.
Fortunately, 71 cultural relics have recovered, and the gangsters will have to pay for what they have done.
