Windpower generators in Xinjiang have become a scene themselves. Chinanews, Urumqi, December 13 - “There are about 24 billion kwh of windpower verifed in Xinjiang, which has the generating capacity of about 80 million kw, or four and a half times that of the Three Gorges Project, ”said Yang Yongli, the director of Xijiang Windpower Institute.
Currently, there are five windpower stations in Xinjiang, with the total capacity of 180 thousand kw. Daban, located at the wind gap between Turpan Basin and Junggar Basin, is famous for windpower development. Currently, many large white windpower generators can be seen along the highway from Urumqi to Turpan, which provide both cities with clean and efficient energy.
The Dennish government donated $3 million worth of windpower devices in 1989 to start the first windpower station in the region, for it had great expectations of the windpower here. Currently, about 1,600 sq km of areas have been included the windpower project, presenting Xinjiang unlimited potential in the development of this green energy. Xinjiang being one of the first batch of areas in the world to start developing windpower, it will absorb more investment and make greater achievement in this field in the future.
