一夜情写入校规 引发媒体争议(中国大学在线_英语新闻)

A new regulation from southwest china's Chongqing Normal University has triggered a huge debate in the media.

The regulation stipulates that students who are found to have had a one night stand or involved in extra-marital affairs will be kicked out of school. Chongqing Evening News reports that students from the school didn't complain to the school authority because they think it would be useless.

Instead they hope this would raise a media discussion. And so let's take a look at some of the media opinions. Beijing News ran a commentary basically supporting the regulation. It says a normal university has the responsibility to ensure that these would-be teachers have good moral standards.

But while acknowledging the school's good intention, it also says the regulation is a bit too harsh. Beijing Morning Post quotes a lawyer as saying that one-night stands is a moral issue, but not a criminal offense. And according to an Education Ministry regulation, the school can only expel a student when he or she has broken the law.
