Some Chinese students and their parents are already interested in college entrance system in the West. (File Photo)   Chinanews, Beijing, Oct. 24 – "I want to receive higher education in U.S, just like my elder sister," said a 16-year-old girl Wang Jingyao, a high school student from Shanghai. Just like many other students from China's metropolises, Wang hopes to study abroad one day. Recently many foreign colleges wish to enroll more students from China.

According to Global Times, some 450 schools from nearly 30 countries and regions participated in the 2006 China International Education Exhibition last week. Schools from Russia even set up a joint organization. Compared with 2005, the number of participating countries in the exhibition increased by 50. Experts believe foreign schools are competing with domestic ones to enroll more Chinese students. Passing national college entrance exam will not be the only choice for students to receive higher education.

Some Chinese students and their parents are already interested in college entrance system in the West. American college entrance exams are SAT and ACT, which grades are the main item by which schools enroll students and grant scholarships. Though never promoted before, these two exams have attracted many Chinese students. In Beijing, thousands of students took part in the exams this year, compared with only 600 in 2005.

However, there has not been any plan yet to launch SAT in Chinese mainland, so domestic students have to take part in this exam in Hong Kong or Taiwan. Currently U.S. College Board is discussing with its domestic education administrations, hoping to set up specific SAT regulations related to Chinese mainland.
