Chinanews, Hangzhou, Nov. 27 – Ms. Ji, an ethnic Korean from Yanji, Jilin Province, currently works for a company manager from South Korea in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, as a housemaid, earning a monthly wage of 2,000 yuan (US$255).

 

Ji started working as a housemaid for a South Korean-invested company in 2002, her daily routine being to cook meals for the company's five staff members and cleaning their offices. The company provided for her accommodation plus a monthly wage of 1500 yuan ($191).

 

The prosperous trade market in Yiwu has attracted more than 8,000 merchants from 80 countries and regions. They choose to stay in Yiwu to expand their business. Meanwhile, more and more Chinese women intend to serve these merchants as their housemaids.

 

Twenty-eight employment agencies in Yiwu have endeavored to get more unemployed women as maids to serve foreigners. Some foreign merchants even register in the local human resources center, hoping to find highly skilled maids.

 

More than 2,000 migrant workers from other parts of China have become such maids there, some of them earning even more than college graduates. These maids are good at cooking, and can sort of communicate with their foreign clients in their native tongues. They also teach their clients Chinese language and traditional culture.
