BEIJING, Mar. 4 -- Fifth generation Chinese director Gu Changwei, who just brought home the Jury Grand Prix award at the Berlin Film Festival for his latest hit "Peacock", is hoping to vie for an Oscar next year.

　　"Peacock" has pocketed five million yuan, or over 600,000 US dollars, at the box office around China since it opened in theaters on February 18th.

　　The film has neither a stellar cast nor an intricate plot, but its' success is proof that ordinary Chinese life can strike a chord with cinema-goers both within and outside China.

　　Director Gu Changwei said that at a length of 140 minutes, the film may seem a little bit long for popular viewing. However, for those who share life experiences similar to the film's characters, its inherent nostalgia can serve as a reminder of a bitter-sweet past.
