根据美联社2004年9月7日公布的最新统计，由于当天又有7名美军士兵在同伊拉克逊尼派和什叶派武装发生的激战中死亡，美军自伊拉克战争爆发以来在伊死亡的人数已突破1000人。其中998人是美军士兵，3人是五角大楼的文职人员。美国白宫发言人麦克莱伦同日也证实，美军在伊死亡人数达到1000人。
