Chinanews, Beijing, October 8 – About 30 million yuan worth of goods were sold during the 7-day National Day holiday, meeting the booming domestic needs, a 14.5% growth compared with last year.
Cell phones, LCD TV sets, digital products, jewels and clothes were consumers’ favorites during the holiday.
With Mid-Autumn Festival (which fell on October 6 this year) coinciding with the National Day this year, restaurants made a hit, too. Wedding ceremonies became an important growth point, as it is believed that 2006 is a perfect year for weddings (because two Lichuns, “the Beginning of Spring”, the first solar item on the traditional Chinese lunar calendar, come in one year, the Year of the Dog, which mostly cover 2006, making it a lucky year). Wedding ceremonies and dinners contributed to nearly 70% of restaurants’ income during the holiday.
On Mid-Autumn Festival alone, restaurants received 30% more customers than last year, even more than last Spring Festival
