Chinanews, Beijing, December 30 – Beijing is famous for its great heritages of ancient buildings, like the Great Wall, the Palace Museum, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, etc. All of them stand for the long history and unlimited cultural attraction of the city.
“When tourists and athletes visit Beijing in 2008, we want them to see the life and history of Beijing, apart from Olympics” said Wang Yuwei, the director of the Department of Cultural Relics Protection at the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritages Administration. Wang's words well explain why Beijing has been working hard to refurbish its ancient buildings.
In fact, Beijing launched the “People's Olympics Project” in 2003, and it has invested 600 million yuan on the protection and refurbishment of ancient buildings. It is planning to refurbish some 100 cultural heritages, to restore Beijing's historical flavor as well as its admirable tradition. Currently, the project is going along swimmingly.
