Currently, of the 210,915 people who have signed up, 53,429, or 25.3%, are Beijing citizens. The Beijing Olympic Games Volunteer Work Coordination Group also reveals that 157,486 college students and teachers have signed up through their schools.
Some 681,068 people have inquired about the recruitment matters with the help of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG).
During the 2008 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games, several thousands "city volunteers" will be wanted to serve tourists and athletes in the city. They will provide services in the Olympic venues, main transportation hubs, scenic spots and commercial districts.
