Peng won 5-7 6-4 6-2.[Reuters] Sept. 21 - Chinese wild card Peng Shuai survived a three-set thriller against defending champion Maria Kirilenko to advance to the women's singles quarterfinals at the China Open WTA tournament.
Peng came from behind to beat her Russian opponent 5-7, 6-4 and 6-2 in a marathon match, which lasted for over two hours.
The 20-year-old Chinese become the first player to enter the final eight and will next play the winner of the match between Switzerland's Marion Bartoli and Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.
Peng also joins Russian player Vera Zvonareva in doubles play. They take on China's top pair and Grand Slam winners Zheng Jie and Yan Zi in the first round.
