China’s Commerce Minister, Bo Xilai, has criticized the United States and the European Union for their restrictions on Chinese textile exports.

　　Addressing the Fortune Global Forum, Bo Xiali says it is unfair that the US and EU blame China for the fast growth of Chinese textile exports to their markets.

　　Ten years ago, developed countries agreed under the WTO framework that they would gradually ease their quota system for textile and garment product imports in ten years.

　　But some countries kept 70 to 90 percent of the most important quotas in place till the end of last year.

　　Their activity caused the short-term rapid growth of China’s textile exports in the first several months this year.

　　Bo Xilai says China’s textile industry is low value-added and closely related to a large low-income population.

　　On average, one exported shirt makes 30 to 40 cents profit for China, while a large proportion of the benefits arising from China’s textile exports have been shared by importers, retailers and consumers worldwide.
