Diners are escorted through blackness without even the light of their cell phones by waiters making their way in the dark with night vision goggles Jan. 7 in a dark restaurant in Beijing. The idea is to make people experience the feelings without vision. Chinanews, Beijing, Mar. 16 – There are many special restaurants opening in Beijing which try to attract customers by focusing on some specific themes. With their special decorations and unique dining atmophere, customers can not only enjoy the taste of the food, but also the cultural elements embodied in the restaurants.
In the Shijingshan Technology Hall, a technology restaurant, called Digital Port Technology Restaurant, was opened earlier in the year. This is the first of its kind in Beijing. In this restaurant, people can eat and learn some technologic information at the same time. Upon entering the restaurant, customers will receive a cordial treatment from robot waitresses. Besides eating, customers can gain some exciting experiences by taking part in some high-tech games, such as simulated driving, playing magnetically levitated balls, wrist wrestling, beating illusory drums, seeing films in 4D film studios, and playing with illusory musical instruments. Normally, this high-tech equipment would only be displayed in technology halls.
“The technological equipment in our restaurant contains 35 state-level patents. While eating, customers can enjoy the new experiences brought to them by high technology. Most customers like it,” said Yan Yang, the restaurant’s general manager.
If the technological restaurant offers a platform for high-tech enthusiasts, then Houjia Restaurant, which is located not far from the Forbidden City, might be a good eating place for car fans. Browsing the menu, one will be impressed by those funny dish names there, like spicy Benz, four-wheel-engine dish, cold dish in the form of traffic lights, and so on, which are all related with automobiles. The dish names themselves will arouse diners’ curiosity.
“Many people, once looking at our menu, will feel that the dish names are very funny and interesting. So eating in our restaurant will give them a fresh feeling which other restaurants do not have,” said Luan Shaofang, the restaurant manager.
Houjia Restaurant is one of the few ones in Beijing that focus on the theme of automobiles. Most of the clients are car fans. The decorations in the restaurant are also related with cars. The cashier counter inside the restaurant is made from a used Beijing Jeep car. Various kinds of registration cards are posted on the wall, making the restaurant look like an exhibition hall for these cards.
