Chinanews, Guangzhou, Feb. 7 –Sacred Heart Cathedral, a catholic church in Guangzhou, southern China's Guangdong Province, has been reopened to the public after two years' repair. The whole project cost nearly 20 million yuan ($12.5 million).

 

Some people compare the cathedral to the Notre-Dame in Paris, one of the best known churches in the world. Sacred Heart Cathedral is also the largest church in Guangdong Province.

 

The Gothic church was built in 1863, which cost 400 thousand francs at that time. It was designed by a French architect, and the construction was finished in 1888. It was built mostly with granite stones, hence its another name “Stone House.”

 

Only use some common glasses will be used and during this year’s renovation, special glass will be sent from the Philippines. Many citizens say the church is special, and many foreign students have also visited the church, some of them more than once.
