作者: 时间: 2020-12-23

Chinanews, Nanchang, Nov. 2 - Lushan Mountain is well known for its beautiful scenery. Although the mountain is small, there are five different religions coexisting there, which is quite unique.

In Lushan, Buddhism, Taoism, Catholicism, Christianity, and Islam can all be found.

Every day, thousands of tourists go to visit the Donglin Temple in Lushan. The temple was first built under the auspices of a senior monk, Hui Yuan, in the fourth century, or during the Eastern Jin Dynasty in China. He created a new sect of Buddhism by saying prayers with his eyes open in front of the Buddha statue.

Taoism first appeared in Lushan during the Southern Dynasties (420 A.D.- 589 A.D.), when Taoist priest Lu Xiujing settled there. He had the Jianji Temple built there and compiled over 1,200 Taoist religious books in the temple. By doing so, he established a new sect of Taoism, the Lingbao. Since then, Buddhism and Taoism had developed side by side in the mountain.

Related statistics show that between the fourth and the thirteenth century, some 500 temples were built in Lushan. At the beginning of the 20th century, Christian priests from over 20 countries gathered in Lushan. Even today, different religions such as Buddhism, Taoism, Catholicism, Christianity, and Islam coexist in harmony in the mountain and there are various kinds of temples reflecting the different religions.

When our reporter arrived at Lushan, he often heard people say that “Lushan is the only one mountain in the world where five religions coexist.” Seeing is believing. After paying a visit to the mountain, the reporter realizes that there is no exaggeration in this popular saying.
