Labor force in Chinese countryside is still excessive, making many farmers go to cities to find jobs. If these migrant workers master professional skills, they will surely contribute more in non-agricultural sectors. (File Photo)   Chinanews, Beijing, Sept. 27 – Currently some 40 million Chinese farmers leave their home villages to work in cities as migrant workers, and 60 million more work in their hometowns. Currently there are totally some 100 million farmers working in non-agricultural sectors, but few of them have received professional trainings. Experts believe it is the right time to develop professional training in the countryside.

Xu Xiaoqing, researcher from Development Research Center of the State Council, thinks the labor force in Chinese countryside is still excessive, making many farmers go to cities to find jobs. If these migrant workers master professional skills, they will surely contribute more in non-agricultural sectors.

Xu reveals three reasons why migrant workers fail to receive professional training. First, many 84% of labor force from the countryside have failed to receive junior high school education. As a result, they do not have enough knowledge to receive professional training.

Second, people live in urban areas are reluctant to let farmers work in their cities, though such an idea has been gradually changed in recent years.

Third, in most foreign countries it is the enterprise that sends their employees for professional training, while most Chinese private enterprises seldom hold such concepts, believing that training professional personnel is the responsibility of the government.
