Some appearance experts gave Shanghai college students lectures Wednesday on how to prepare for a job interview.
Since the job market is exceedingly tight, many new graduates see cosmetic surgery as the fastest route to improve their appearance and stand out in an interview. But rather than recommending a few hours under the knife, some experts suggest participants should find ways to let their inner beauty shine.
Peng Bo, President of Shanghai Time Plastic Surgery Hospital, said during the session at Shanghai Shanda University that the job-hunting period for senior students is also the peak time they seek plastic surgery.
The hospital performed about 300 surgeries on students during the peak period last year, a 30 to 40 percent increase over the year before.
Peng also said that about 1 to 2 percent of the students asking for surgery have mental problems and consider cosmetic procedures a last chance to ensure a bright future.
Xu Jiahua from the Shanghai Theater Academy, said that recruiters consider academic performance, inner qualities and communication skills more important than appearance. A clean and proper appearance is more impressive than just a pretty face.
