Ever since Taiwan pop singer Jay Chow’s song was promoted as "inspirational" in some Shanghai middle schools, pop songs seem to be gaining a stronger foothold in the academic world.

　　The lyrics discuss confusion, suffering and the thoughts of Chinese youth facing social transformation in 1980s and 90’s.

　　Additionally, Hong Kong singer Andy Lau’s song "Chinese" was also promoted as patriotic song to middle school students across China last month.
