Chinanews, Beijing, Apr. 19 – The China City Mayors Association on Tuesday issued the "China City Development Report" in Beijing. The report says that since China has a large population, especially a large farming population, urbanization will become a long process in China. The ever-expanding of city population will put a great pressure on city employment, which will become the biggest challenge to China during its urbanization process.

 

Statistics show that by the end of 2006, urban population in China reached 577 million and the urbanization ratio reached 43.9%, or 0.9 percentage point higher than 2005. Chinese urbanization ratio has been growing by 1% every year and the fast urbanization process will continue in the next 30 years.

 

By 2020, 300 million farmers in China will become city dwellers, which is a part of the “social campaign” launched by the Chinese government. The government should guide the urbanization process with careful plans. Based on the Chinese national situation, the government should boost urbanization process in various ways so that urbanization process can move on in a healthy and orderly way.
