Chinanews, Beijing, April 20 - Each Beijing family will get a free salt volume spoon, to control their daily intake of salt.
According to a recent survey, 35% of adults in Beijing are overweight, and another 17% suffering from obesity. However, the national figure of the overweight cases is only 22.8%. "Diseases resulting from unhealthy diet habit, like obesity, hypertension and diabetes, are spreading very fast in Beijing," said Zhao Chunhun, vice director of Beijing Municipal Health Bureau.
Thus the Health Bureau is determined to help the citizens form a healthier diet, and the first step will be to limit the amount of salt they eat to 6 g every day, as is recommended by WHO.
Besides the spoon, documents on the harmfulness of eating too much salt will be given to Beijing citizens, too.
