Chinanews, Beijing, March 17 - “Chinese juveniles nowadays look very tall and strong, but they are very weak in fact,”said Zhong Nanshan, the president of the Chinese Medical Association. “A person going without illness doesn't necessarily mean that he/she is healthy and strong,” Zhong added.

 

China has conducted 4 physical checks among its juveniles since 1985, finding the situation has been worsening.

 

Currently, 76% of senior high school students and 83% of college students in China are near-sighted. Their vital capacity and stamina are much lower than juveniles 20 years ago, while their weight is much heavier. Statistics show that 24% of boys in cities are over-weight.

 

Malnutrition is another problem, despite the fact that the living conditions in China have been greatly improved.

 

However, juveniles in present-day China generally look stronger than their elder generations, as they are taller and heavier. Actually, all the apparent statistics only help to cover up the truth of their weakness.
