Chinanews, Beijing, Mar. 11 – A recent survey conducted among women in 16 countries shows that Chinese women are satisfied with their role in the family, as they get support from their spouses and have decision-making power in the family. On the other hand, Chinese women are dissatisfied with issues like their economic status in society, health security, career opportunities and the chance of receiving education.
The results of the survey were released on Thursday by Avon Products Inc., an American cosmetic company, after it investigated more than 8,000 urban women above the age of 18 in the world. The investigation, carried out early in last January, aimed at finding out the status in the family, socio-economic position, health conditions and social relationships of women of different age groups and different ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
The survey was randomly conducted among women living in China, the United States, Britain, Germany, Italy, Japan, India, Poland, Russia, Venezuela, the Philippines, Brazil, Mexico, Egypt, South Africa and Turkey.
The survey contained 34 questions. They include whether women can choose their marriage partners and decide when to marry; whether women can decide whether or when they will give birth to a baby; whether they are fully respected by their spouses; whether their husbands help them with household chores; whether they take care of and educate their children; whether they have the right to divorce; whether they have their own houses and sufficient money to do what they want; and whether they can get affordable health check and medical care.
About 500 Chinese women participated in the survey and overall, they gave 64 marks out of 100 to grade their current life. The survey shows that Chinese women are most satisfied with the fact that they can arrange their own life, make decision on religion issue, and are cared for by the family. Most women believe they will have a bright future. More than 60% of the respondents believe they will have a female state leader in ten years.
About 70% of women in the survey, including women from China, are dissatisfied with their career opportunities and their chance of receiving education.
