Chinanews, Beijing, Feb. 14 – How many people are there in China's new social stratum? According to information from the People's Daily Overseas Edition, China's new social stratum consists of 50 million people. If the number of employees working for them are included, then the new social stratum will be composed of 150 million people. These people control 10 trillion yuan of capital and over half of the technical patents. They contribute to nearly one-third of the national tax revenue and create half of the job opportunities in China every year.
According to the report delivered by the General Secretary of the CPC Control Committee at the 16th CPC National Congress, the new social stratum was formed in the process of the opening-up and in development of the socialist market economy. It consists of business starters and technical engineers working in private-funded, high-tech companies, people working as managers or technical engineers in foreign-funded enterprises, self-employed individuals, owners of private enterprises, people working in intermediate agencies and freelancers.
These people come from all walks of life in society and have close contacts with people from other social strata, international organizations and people living abroad.
