Feb.13 - Law experts in China have called for legislative measures to stop pedestrians' using mobiles when crossing the roadm, CRI reported.
Talking into one's mobile when crossing roads is dangerous because the pedestrian is far less aware of the cars at his or her side.
In America, a senator has recently been appealing for such a law of prohibition. If the law is approved, New York pedestrians will only be allowed to use their mobile phone when walking in parks. The proposals have caused intense debate among the public, many of whom claim it deprives pedestrians of their rights.
A senior lawyer in Guangdong, Cai Haining said that current road law is unbalanced, since it only assigns culpability to the driver. Dangerous acts like running across the street while shouting into a mobile are currently unpunishable by law.
