Chinanews, Shanghai, February 6 – It's a tradition for Chinese to have family reunion on Spring Festival (Lunar New Year), thus most non-locals in Shanghai are preparing for their homebound trip. The New Year presents for the family members are perhaps the most important part of the celebration.
In the past, non-locals who worked in Shanghai would like to send some candies and electric appliances back home. However, today's non-locals have developed a different concept of “good” presents.
Department stores in Shanghai have started various shopping promotions, especially on the new products and imported food, as they are the favorite of young non-locals.
The Zhangs, from Hunan Province, said they would honor their parents with a Western-style New Year's Eve feast.
Many other non-locals will just send money to their family members, as it is really difficult for them to take too many presents with them on their way home.
