Chinanews, Wenzhou, Dec. 30 – Pocket mirrors, lipsticks, perfumes and even spas are no longer strange words to Wenzhou men, in their pursuit for “male beauty”.
Chinese used to believe that male beauty came only from masculinity. They also misinterpreted “masculinity”as dressing slovenly, and of course cosmetics were considered to be a taboo to men. Men who used cosmetics would be called "sissies" in the past.
However, the viewpoint of male beauty has changed in China. In fact, those men with better appearances usually get better chances, too. Our reporter has visited several department stores in Wenzhou, finding there are many different kinds of cosmetics for men on the shelves. Beauty spas for men are becoming popular every day, although many customers are still reluctant to enjoy them.
Interestingly, many women in Wenzhou select perfume as the best present for their boyfriends or husbands.
