Chinanews, Beijing, Nov. 20 – "Three thousand yuan of personal monthly income" is the starting point for Chinese people to pursue fashion, according to a survey.
"China is not in the lead in the world's fashion domain, but a good participant," said Xiao Mingchao, an invited researcher of the China National Situation Research Association and director of the data research on prosperity index.
He gave the above speech last Wednesday when the "Report of China's Vogue Index 2006" made jointly by him and his colleagues was unveiled in Beijing. The report shows China's fashion merely wins a pass, scoring 65.3 based on the full mark of 100.
In China, "people have strong desire to pursue fashion, and gain much self-satisfaction from fashion, but their ability in perceiving and identifying fashion is mediocre, and the consumption in fashion is relatively low as well," says the report.
During the research, many interviewees believe that China's fashion dates back from the early 1990s with the mark of the reform and opening-up. By then, people began to pay more attention to dressing up and to the diversity of clothes; news and information industry started fast development; and the Internet began to surge up.
It is concluded from the research that there is a huge space and potential in China's fashion development.
