Chinanews, Beijing, Nov. 21 – A latest survey launched the People's Court of Xicheng District in Beijing reveals that among 500 divorce cases without disputes from either husbands or wives since last January, some 5% of the couples were born in the 1980s. Most of their divorce applications were solved by mediation.
"We found that most couples came here without quarrelling, while some of them were still affectionate just like lovers," said a judge. "Compared with other divorce cases involving property division, the purpose of most 1980s couples' divorce cases is simple, for they think their spouses are not suitable for them any more."
This reporter finds that 90 percent of such divorce cases involved single children. Nearly half of them had dated for more than a year, and some had endured even a four-year courtship marathon. Meanwhile, some of their marriages lasted only for four months, and the longest, for two years.
However, a judge who conducted the survey does not agree to the allegation that "1980s couples" marry rashly. "I believe most couples had thought over their relationship carefully before they applied for divorce. They were better educated than their parents, so they should know how to solve their personal life problems more reasonably," said the judge.
