Chinanews, Shanghai, November 19 – Though it was thought that nurses should be “female only”occupation, today's male nurses are obviously more popular. “They are stronger and quicker, so both patients and doctors like them, ”said Liu Weiqun, the head nurse of a hospital in Shanghai.

 

Recently, many hospitals in Shanghai have started to recruit new staff members, and male nurses are the most popular ones.

 

“Female nurses can not carry paralyzed patients. In the past, we could only ask other male staff workers to give us a help, but they did not know much about nursing. That's why we need male nurses,”said Liu. Besides, male nurses do have advantages when taking care of male patients, as many male patients might feel shy or embarrassed in front of female nurses.

 

However, Liu is not confident in recruiting enough male nurses this year. “There are too few qualified male nurses to meet the needs of hospitals, indeed,”said Liu.
