Chinanews, Guilin, October 12 – Houzhuang Village has long been famous for cockfight and gamecock breeding ever since the reign of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty.

 

Being the village with the longest cockfight history, the villagers have made the trade a new efficient economic growth point, bringing in abundant profit. All the 300 families in the village breed gamecocks. The training and breeding of the birds have taken up most of their slack seasons, and cockfighting games entertain them on holidays.

 

Li Xiaoyu traded all his pigs for 3 gamecocks years ago, and the fair trade has eventually led him to a well-off life. Li Zhaoda even earned a mansion by breeding gamecocks, and he is planning to import some even tougher birds from Vietnam.

 

Though cockfight used to be a bloody gambling sport, today it has borne rich fruit bringing much happiness to Houzhuang Village, the paradise of gamecocks.
