　　For Zhang Meiyu, a migrant woman from Anhui Province, the past few days have been an unrelenting nightmare.

　　She’s been sitting beside her daughter round-the-clock ever since 13-month-old Jin Yutong was scalded by boiling water from an exploding thermos bottle on Monday night.

　　The child suffered burns on 16 percent of her body, mostly on her face, neck and chest, according to doctors at Shanghai Armed Police Hospital, where she is being treated.

　　"She can breathe on her own now, and the swelling in her throat, which had threatened her life, is gradually diminishing," Zeng Yong, vice director of the hospital’s burn department, told Shanghai Daily yesterday evening. The accident occurred when the mother was preparing milk for the girl in their rented apartment.
