The 5th ASEM summit welcomed 10 new European Union members and three from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The 13 new members are Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovak Republic and Slovenia.
