Currently, of the 210,915 people who have signed up, 53,429, or 25.3%, are Beijing citizens.   Chinanews, Beijing, Oct. 8 – According to China Youth Daily, over 210 thousand people have signed up to serve in Beijing as volunteers in the 2008 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games in September since the recruitment began on August 28.

 

A total of 70,000 people will be needed for the 2008 Summer Olympics, and another 30,000 for the Paralympics. Currently, of the 210,915 people who have signed up, 53,429, or 25.3%, are Beijing citizens. The Beijing Olympic Games Volunteer Work Coordination Group also reveals that 157,486 college students and teachers have signed up through their schools.

 

Some 681,068 people have inquired about the recruitment matters with the help of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG).

 

During the 2008 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games, several thousands "city volunteers" will be wanted to serve tourists and athletes in the city. They will provide services in the Olympic venues, main transportation hubs, scenic spots and commercial districts.
