In a close contest, Li split the first two rounds one each with rival Kanatbek Begaliev from Kyrgystan. The pair were going head to head at the start of the decisive third and final round when Yanyan delivered the move of his life, slipping behind Begaliev for the winning takedown with only seven seconds left.

 

It is China's first gold medal in the men's wrestling world championships.

 

Iran and the United States won the men's 55kg and 60kg respectively on the first day of the competition.

 

The tournament will run from September 25 to October 1st.
