CAIRO, Egypt - Fans ripped plastic seats from the stands and hurled them at black-uniformed, helmeted Egyptian riot police Tuesday at the African Cup of Nations.
The violence during a 0-0 tie between Egypt and Morocco appeared to be caused by Libyan fans who remained in the crowd of 74,000 at Cairo International Stadium following the first game of the doubleheader, a 2-1 victory by Ivory Coast over Libya.
Riot police forced Libyan fans from the stadium, sparking scuffles. It was not known if there were any injuries or arrests.
