The blood pressure of the other group was reduced by almost three percent. The researchers were not sure why vitamin C had this effect on blood pressure. They said more studies are needed to find out.

Other new studies report about Vitamin E. Earlier research suggested this vitamin could reduce the chance of heart attacks. A new study found no evidence of this. Salim Yusuf of Hamilton General Hospital in Ontario, Canada led the study. It was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Researchers studied the health of more than nine thousand five hundred people who had an increased risk of heart attack or stroke. Half of the people took four hundred international units of vitamin E every day. The others took an inactive substance.

The kangaroo rat lives in a desert area of the south-western United States. It gets its name from its jumping ability. Proportionately, it has the same long, powerful legs as the kangaroo. It also has a strong tail on which to sit.

Only three inches (7.62 cm) in length, the kangaroo rat can jump with amazing accuracy and land directly on top of an insect, its principal food. When two kangaroo rats fight, they do so in midair. Two fighters leap into the air and hit each other with their sharp claws while still in the air.

Probably the most interesting thing about the kangaroo rat is that he never drinks water. Since he lives in an area of little water, he gets moisture from desert plants. These provide him with all the liquid that he needs.

--How did you like the performance?

--Generally speaking, it was very good. The part of the maid was played beautifully, but I thought the man who played the salesman was too dramatic to be realistic.

Q: How does the woman feel about the salesman in the play?

His real name was John Chapman but he was known as Johnny Appleseed. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1774. Beginning in the 1790s until his death in 1845, Johnny Appleseed distributed apple seeds ,young trees, and Bibles to people as far west as Ohio. In his lifetime he covered more than 100,000 square miles (259,000 sq-kms) with apple trees. He often returned to some areas to cultivate the trees that he had planted.

Johnny Appleseed's clothing was somewhat strange. He wore a coffee sack for a shirt and a tin pan for a hat. He cooked his meals in the pan.

Johnny Appleseed was a folk hero during his lifetime and has become a legend today. Many of the orchards still existing in the eastern United States are memorial to his love of the land and for his fellow countrymen.

American high schools also have computers. Many have their own areas on the World Wide Web. If you have a computer you can learn about Fremont Union High School in Sunnyvale, California, for example. Its Web site provides information about the school, the teachers and their electronic mail addresses. It also lists student events and organizations.

Young children also use computers in school. Smoketree Elementary School, in Lake Havasu, Arizona is a good example. The school also has a World Wide Web site. It tells about the school and the teachers and has an area for young children. These young children use computers in school to learn numbers and letters. They also learn how to use the computers they will need later in their education.
