“首字母填词”是根据句意和已给的首字母，在句子的空白处填上适当的单词，使句子意思完整，语法正确的一种题型。这一题型是近几年全国各地中考英语适应新的教学大纲要求而出现的一种新题型。该题型既考查学生的单词记忆和拼写能力，又考查学生对句子和“四会词语”的理解和运用的能力。现在谈谈做好此类题目的方法和技巧，供同学们学习时参考。

　　1. 通读全句，正确把握句意，并分析已给的句子部分，确定应填的单词。

　　2. 检查。

　　1 ）检查填入空白处的单词词性是否正确，例如，作定语修饰名词时，要用形容词，作状语修饰动词时，要用副词等。

　　2 ）检查单词词尾是否需要词形变化，即词尾是否要加 -s / -es ， -er / -est ， -ing / -ed ， -ly 等。

　　3 ）复核全句。检查空白处填词后，句子是否通顺、单词拼写和大小写字母是否有误等。例如：

　　Jim runs faster than Jack.

　　The baby is hungry. Mother is feeding her.
