你还记得你自己或爸妈的「结婚周年纪念」（wedding anniversary）吗？何以「周年纪念日」的英文叫 "anniversary" 、而「千禧年」称为 "millennium"？

    英语中用来表达年岁的词汇中多半含有 "ann" 或 "enn" 两个拉丁字根，两者意义相同，皆表示「年份」、「年岁」（year）之意。明乎此，我们就很容易理解下列含有这个字根的词汇所代表的语意，例如：

    9.perennial﹝ ﹞adj. & n. （ per + enn = through + year，终年的；常年的；长期的；多年生植物）

    10.annuity ﹝ ﹞n. （ ann = year ，年金；年金保险）。
